New ENERGY STAR® Ceiling Fan 4.0 specifications will go into effect
June 15, 2018 – this includes major changes to the efficacy
requirements.
These new specifications create a series of concerns for suppliers
and manufactures. It is feared that only ceiling fans with DC motors
will be able to achieve the requirements, which are significantly more
expensive, a cost that consumers may not want to pay. It's too soon to
tell if consumers will choose the cheaper fans without the ENERGY STAR®
rating, or if the rebates will make the extra cost of the DC fan the same
as cheaper AC motor fans.
